New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu has described the ongoing crisis at the southern U.S. border as a historic disaster.
The Republican governor of the Granite State made this statement during an interview with Fox News anchor Elizabeth MacDonald, who hosts “The Evening Edit.” MacDonald mentioned that Sununu is among the 25 governors who want the White House to turn over information on where exactly illegal aliens are relocated. In response, the New Hampshire governor said that he and other governors are like CEOs that must manage the situations in their states.
“Washington, [D.C.] gets away with not doing anything, so we need the data. Where are they going? At what rate are they actually coming in? There’s such a black box of information,” Sununu said.
“It’s a historic disaster happening primarily on the southern border that [the Biden administration] doesn’t know what to do. They are just running in circles trying to run out the clock to get to the November 2024 election, which is awful.”
He added it has to be about results, since not everybody sees what is happening at the border.
“No one likes what’s going on. First and foremost, the border has to be secured. You got to have other policies that go into place. You got to let the Border Patrol and ICE [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] do their jobs as they have really been designed to do.”
For his part, Sununu deployed 100 members of the New Hampshire National Guard to the Texas border to assist in border security. These 100 guard members join thousands of guardsmen from other states deployed to secure the southern border from illegal immigrants entering unlawfully. The New Hampshire governor also noted that all states are willing to protect the southern border and uphold national security, with Washington, D.C. the only exception. He also told MacDonald that the Democrats in the federal capital have created a policy that doesn’t work, only to claim that they didn’t draft it in the first place.
Sununu also noted that when this happens, the Democrats then look to Republicans to try and fix it, if not blame them for it. Such an occurrence is typical in Washington, D.C., he said.
“This is a national problem. Everyone needs to get on board. There’s nothing political about cartels, about fentanyl coming in, about human sex trafficking [and] children being trafficked. This is the humanitarian crisis that Americans know.”
MacDonald meanwhile mentioned that even Democrats in so-called sanctuary cities such as Chicago, Los Angeles and San Diego are getting angry at the situation. Other cities have also declared emergencies to address the migrant crisis.
She then played a video of New York Gov. Kathy Hochul doing a complete U-turn with regard to her stance on illegal immigrants. “If you’re going to leave your country, go somewhere else,” Hochul said, adding that the Empire State is already at its limit with the number of border crossers it can receive.
“We have to get the word out, that when you come to New York, you’re not going to have more hotel rooms, we don’t have capacity,” the New York state governor said. “So we have to also message properly that we’re at a limit.”
But according to the Daily Mail, Hochul promised to house and protect illegal aliens in statements she made back in December 2021. This promise would have serious repercussions on the Empire State almost three years later.
“As you know, the Statue of Liberty is inscribed: ‘Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses, yearning to be free.’ You’re welcome with open arms, and we’ll work to keep you safe. We’ll not only house you, but we’ll protect you,” Hochul said at the time.
