A lobbying group in the United Kingdom has petitioned London’s Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) to open a new investigation into the country’s disgraced Prince Andrew after courts in the United States unsealed a new tranche of documents related to the late convicted pedophile and sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.
The new documents, unsealed in two batches by Senior Judge Loretta Preska of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, identify over a hundred associates of Epstein, including Andrew, as mentioned in the trial of Virginia Giuffre, one of Epstein’s sex trafficking victims, and Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s former lover and associate in his crimes. During the trial, Giuffre alleged that the prince sexually assaulted her when she was 17. Another Epstein victim, Johanna Sjoberg, alleges that the prince sexually assaulted her while Giuffre was also there.
Anti-monarchy lobbying organization Republic said on Thursday, Jan. 4, that it had reported Andrew again to MPS detectives, urging the police to open a new investigation against the prince and claiming that the authorities did not properly look into the allegations against him the first time.
But the MPS said in a statement that it will not be conducting any new investigations against Andrew because it claims that no “new and relevant information” came out of the released documents.
“We are aware of the release of court documents in relation to Jeffrey Epstein,” said the MPS. “As with any matter, should new and relevant information be brought to our attention we will assess it. No investigation has been launched.”
When information first came to light that Andrew sexually assaulted underage girls with the help of Epstein and Maxwell, he was stripped of most of his titles and removed from official royal duties.
Andrew, currently the eighth in line to inherit the throne of the U.K., had almost entirely been frozen out of participating in any royal duties and from holding any public role as a member of the royal family. He only occasionally appears at family events, such as during the family’s annual Christmas reunions, Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in 2022 and his older brother King Charles II’s coronation in 2023.
Now, the latest documents seemed to “crystalize” to Charles his determination to solve the “Andrew problem.” This could lead Charles to renew a push to evict Andrew from Royal Lodge, the 98-acre crown estate with a 30-room mansion where the prince lives with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson.
Charles has reportedly been attempting to evict Andrew from Royal Lodge since early last year, but plans failed after Andrew simply refused to leave and after Ferguson spent weeks in the house recovering following surgery for breast cancer.
The prince continues to deny all accusations of wrongdoing or of having had any relationship with Giuffre and Sjoberg, both of whom have accused Epstein of abusing them at his mansion in Manhattan and in Little Saint James, Epstein’s private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
