Depending on which media sources you read or watch, you will get a much different version of events concerning the proposed ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. Middle East Eye and Human Events say that Hamas accepted a U.S. mediated ceasefire proposal but that Israel rejected it, while Breitbart News is claiming that Hamas “suddenly begs for ceasefire” as Israel is about to launch an attack on Rafah. So, who is telling the truth?
Hamas itself said that it accepted a proposal from Egypt and Qatar, mediated by the U.S., that involves the release of all Israeli captives in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. The Netanyahu regime will not agree to it, however, because it contains “far-reaching” conclusions that Israel cannot accept.
“This would appear to be a ruse intended to make Israel look like the side refusing a deal,” an Israeli official is quoted as saying about the proposed deal and all the confusion surrounding it.
Breitbart, meanwhile, is presenting the story much differently to make it seem as though Hamas was refusing to cooperate until the very last minute when it realized that Israel really is planning to launch a full ground invasion of Rafah any day now.

Since the October 7 incident, Breitbart has adopted a very pro-Zionist bent, which some say is not all that shocking considering the suspicious nature of how its founder, Andrew Breitbart, died in 2012.
Many have felt for a long time that Breitbart, which as previously mentioned used to employ Zionist infiltrator Ben Shapiro, was co-opted by sinister forces that got rid of Breitbart in order to turn his media outlet into a propaganda mouthpiece for Zionism. In many ways, this appears to be what happened based on Breitbart‘s continued coverage of Israel’s war on Gaza.
Breitbart insists that Hamas held out for weeks concerning the ceasefire proposal until it was absolutely sure that Netanyahu was planning to follow through on his ground invasion threat. Once that became clear, according to Breitbart, Hamas started “begging” for a ceasefire.
The narrative claims that Hamas was calling Israel’s bluff, not believing that it would actually conduct a ground invasion into Rafah. Israel, meanwhile, says it fully plans to finish the job it started with Rafah as the last remaining target in the Palestinian enclave.
It definitely looks as though there will be no ceasefire no matter what terms are presented. Israel is committed to eliminating Hamas, and Hamas is trying to remain in existence no matter what since Israel is trying to make sure the group never again returns to power in Gaza.
It is also being reported that Israel proceeded to “carpet bomb” Rafah immediately after Hamas accepted a ceasefire proposal, this being another version of events by some media outlets.
In war, deception is to be expected, hence all the confusion. The question is: are both sides doing the deceiving or is there any concrete truth to be found concerning what is really going on in the Middle East? Will we ever know the truth?
Another bit of news worth mentioning is a meeting that CIA director William Burns reportedly had with Hamas to try to forge a ceasefire agreement that would be acceptable to both parties. Nobody involved in the matter seems willing to talk about it, though, with government officials declining to comment.
