The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) has launched a fierce attack against Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), denouncing her remarks against Tel Aviv’s “genocide” in the Gaza Strip.
The influential pro-Israel lobbying group issued this rebuke in a fundraising email to supporters on Aug. 7. AIPAC condemned the Georgia congresswoman for echoing what it called “anti-Israel smears,” reiterating that her remarks are a “betrayal of American values.”
The group accused Greene of distorting facts and aligning with what it termed an “anti-Israel Squad.” It compared the congresswoman to her progressive colleagues such as Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN). The two Democrats are both vocal opponents of Israel on Capitol Hill.
The escalating dispute highlights deepening divisions within the Republican Party over U.S. support for Israel amid growing international condemnation of its military campaign in Gaza. Greene, an outspoken ally of President Donald Trump, has repeatedly described Israel’s military offensive as genocide – citing the humanitarian catastrophe and mass starvation in Gaza.

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has also ruled that Israel must take steps to prevent acts of genocide, underscoring the gravity of the allegations. Despite this, AIPAC dismissed Greene’s accusations as “disgusting” and vowed to challenge what it called “lies” about Israel regardless of political affiliation.
AIPAC vs. America First: The GOP’s fracturing support for unconditional Israel aid
Greene retaliated on the same day, accusing the group of operating as an unregistered foreign lobbyist for Tel Aviv. “The truth is AIPAC needs to register as a foreign lobbyist by U.S. law because they are representing the secular government of nuclear-armed Israel 100 percent,” she wrote.
The historically bipartisan AIPAC has increasingly directed campaign funds against critics of Israel, spending tens of millions to defeat progressive incumbents in recent election cycles. However, Greene’s strong support in her Georgia district – where she won by nearly 30 points in 2022 – makes her a formidable target. This controversy reflects broader shifts within the GOP, where a faction aligned with Trump’s “America First” ideology has grown more vocal in questioning unconditional aid to Israel.
Notably, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) – the only other GOP lawmaker consistently opposing Israel funding – has faced similar backlash from AIPAC. Meanwhile, even some traditionally pro-Israel lawmakers – including Democrats backed by AIPAC – have begun expressing doubts about U.S. military support amid the worsening crisis.
As tensions escalate, the debate over U.S. foreign policy in Gaza continues to fracture political alliances. For Greene, the fight with AIPAC underscores her unorthodox alignment with progressive critiques of Israel. Despite backlash, the congresswoman’s stance resonates with an increasing number of Americans skeptical of U.S. involvement abroad.
